Abase station, methods and a computer program product are disclosed. Abase station controller unit for supporting communication with user equipment of a wireless telecommunications network comprises: processor logic operable to convert between backhaul signals for communication with a network node of said wireless telecommunications network and radio frequency signals for communication with said user equipment; and a controller unit transceiver operable to convert between said radio frequency signals and wireless link signals and to support communication of said wireless link signals with a base station remote unit. This split-architecture approach enables the base station remote unit to be located away from the base station controller units at a convenient location without the need to provide a wired connection to the core networks due to the provision of the wireless link between the base station remote unit and the base station controller unit acting as a relay. This significantly increases the possible deployment locations for the base station since the base station remote unit does not need to have a wired link with the core network and instead connects wirelessly to the network via the base station controller unit.
