摘要 A method of treating water in an evaporative cooling tower comprises the preparation of a liquid mixture, wherein the mixture comprises a mineral acid and a corrosion inhibitor. The proportion of corrosion inhibitor in the mixture is determined by the amount of acid which will be required to maintain the pH of the water in a required range. Some of the liquid mixture is added to the water until the pH of the water is in the required range, and further liquid mixture is added to the water when it is detected that the pH of the water has risen above the required range. Suitably, the mineral acid is any of sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid or nitric acid. Preferably, the corrosion inhibitor comprises a blend of a cathodic corrosion inhibitor for ferrous metals and a corrosion inhibitor for copper and copper alloys. The corrosion inhibitor can comprise an anodic corrosion inhibitor, such as phosphoric acid. An iron sequestrant, such as hydroxy-ethylidene diphosphosphonic acid (HEDP) can be included in the corrosion inhibitor formulation. In one embodiment, the cathodic corrosion inhibitor is zinc. In another aspect, a water treatment material is claimed, wherein the material is a liquid mixture as described above.
