Provided is a light emitting diode element having a high luminance and a high light collecting efficiency by reflecting light which has been outputted from the semiconductor light emitting layer of a light emitting diode in the side surface direction of the semiconductor light emitting diode. A light emitting diode module wherein the light emitting diode elements are arranged on one substrate is also provided. A side reflecting section which reflects, at a position close to the side surface of the light emitting layer, the light which has been outputted from the light emitting layer is formed on the substrate of the light emitting diode. Light which has been outputted in the light collecting direction from an active layer is outputted without change, light which has been outputted in the direction opposite to the light collecting direction is reflected by a rear surface reflecting film and is outputted in the light collecting direction, and light which has been outputted in the direction along the active layer is reflected by the side reflecting section and is outputted in the substantially light collecting direction. |
