PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-oxopiperidine (TAA) useful as an intermediate of pharmaceuticals, insecticides, light-stabilizers for polymers, etc., in high yield and purity from sewage sludge disposed as waste. SOLUTION: The production method is characterized in that sewage sludge is thermally decomposed to produce a thermal decomposition product containing at least ammonia, the produced thermal decomposition product is passed through acetone to effect absorption and dissolution of at least ammonia in the thermal decomposition product into acetone, the absorption and dissolution liquid is retained for a prescribed period, and TAA is isolated from the retained absorption and dissolution liquid.
