[Class 83 (iii)] Means for securing a body, e.g. a tool or tool-holder on the spindle 1 of a machine tool, comprises a socket 2 formed with a ball-cage 8 housing clamping balls 10, a nut 7 being screwthreaded into the socket 2 and being provided with a clamping groove 12 having recesses 13 to receive the balls 10 in the slacked position of the nut 7, the latter being rotatable from the slacked position into the clamping position and thereby axially displaced, the balls 10 thus being clamped in the groove 12 and in a groove 19 provided in a tool-holder 17. The rotation of the nut 7 is limited by a stop-screw 15 or by a spring-loaded detent. The tool-holder 17 and socket 2 are positively driven from the spindle 1 by means of a follower block 20. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the socket comprises a shank fitting into the bore of the spindle-head. In a further modification, the socket may be formed on the spindle-head. |
