Preparing polyetherol, comprises carrying out catalytic ring-opening polymerization of alkylene oxide with at least one at least monofunctional compound that is reactive with alkylene oxide, using at least one N-heterocyclic carbene catalyst. An independent claim is also included for the polyetherol producible by the above method.
