<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform multicast transfer of a packet from a source node to a plurality of destination nodes in an optical ring network topology.SOLUTION: A wavelength for receiving a packet is associated with each node, and a packet has a control header and a payload. Multicast chain information is stored into the control header of the packet at the source node. The multicast chain information identifies the source node and the plurality of destination nodes thereby defining a sequence of nodes to which the packet is to be sequentially transferred. The packet is transmitted to a next node in the sequence using the wavelength of the next node and in each of nodes in the sequence, the packet is received according to the order defined by the sequence. In accordance with the sequence, the control header is processed for identifying a subsequent node following the node and if the subsequent node is identified, the packet is transmitted to the subsequent node using the wavelength of the subsequent node.</p> |
