PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater capable of suppressing drop in water temperature of high temperature water stored in a hot water storage tank at the time of cleaning of a heat exchanger for reheating, and an operation method of the water heater.SOLUTION: A water heater S comprises: a hot water storage tank 1 which introduces high temperature water heated in a heat pump unit 8 from an upper part in the vertical direction, introduces low temperature water before heating from a lower part in the vertical direction and stores the high temperature water above the low temperature water; a reheating heat exchanger 24 which makes bathtub water supplied to a bathtub 2 from the hot water storage tank 1 and the high temperature water stored in the hot water storage tank 1 exchange heat, and reheats the bathtub water supplied to the bathtub 2; and a controller 16. Then, when medium temperature water is determined to be stored at a boundary portion between the high temperature water and the low temperature water stored in the hot water storage tank 1, the controller 16 supplies the medium temperature water to the reheating heat exchanger 24 and washes the reheating heat exchanger 24. Also, an operation method of the water heater S is provided. |
