PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member that has excellent frictional abrasion characteristics and excellent rigidity.SOLUTION: The sliding member is produced by a method for manufacturing a sliding member including (1) a mixing step of mixing, in the presence of an organic liquid (C), a polyacetal resin (A) and a modified vegetable fiber (B) that is produced by modifying a vegetable fiber (B') with an alkyl succinic anhydride or an alkenyl succinic anhydride in a liquid capable of swelling the vegetable fiber (B'), (2) a kneading step of further kneading the mixture produced in the mixing step (1) while if necessary, adding the polyacetal resin (A), and (3) a molding step of molding a resin composition produced in the kneading step (2) to produce a sliding member.
