PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve gear for an engine, simply constructed to surely prevent the collision of cam element parts with the ends of cam bearing parts during changeover of cams and stabilize the supporting balance of the cam element parts with a shaft part.SOLUTION: On a fitting area between each of cam element parts 20-20and a shaft part 10, a first detent mechanism 40A and a second detent mechanism 40B each having a detent ball 43 and a spring 42, and peripheral grooves 44 are provided in the state that the detent balls 43 are kept in phase in the energizing direction. In each of the first and second detent mechanisms 40A, 40B, two peripheral grooves 44, 44V-shaped in cross section are provided neighboring each other with which the detent ball 43 selectively engages and which have outside inclined parts 44, 44and inside inclined parts 44, 44on both sides, respectively. Inclination angles γ, δ of the outside inclined parts 44, 44to the axial direction are larger than inclination angles α, &bgr; of the inside inclined parts 44, 44. |
