PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate a band width of a communication channel while considering occurrence of retransmission time-out.SOLUTION: A portable terminal acquires a measurement of a round trip time in a communication channel used for communication with a server and a measurement of a packet loss rate in the communication channel (S502 and S503). The portable terminal then determines whether retransmission time-out occurs in the server (S504, S505 and S506). In the case where the retransmission time-out occurs in the server, the portable terminal calculates an estimate of a band width of the communication channel by using a special throughput equation including a time-out time (S507). In the case where the retransmission time-out does not occur in the server, on the other hand, the portable terminal calculates the estimate of the band width by using a normal throughput equation which does not include the time-out time. |
