PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zinc oxide ore production method which produces zinc oxide ore from halogen-containing ore, and can produce high-quality zinc oxide ore by maintaining a sufficiently desirable halogen removal rate while performing operation at a lower temperature than that of a conventionally well-known operation condition.SOLUTION: In a zinc oxide ore production method including a drying and heating step of firing halogen-containing ore using a rotary kiln 1, an inner wall of the rotary kiln 1 is installed with a lifter part 13 capable of scraping up the halogen-containing ore, the total amount (G) of contact of the halogen-containing ore with an air flow in a furnace, which is a value obtained by multiplying the contact ratio (R) of the halogen-containing ore with an air flow in a furnace by the air flow contact improvement ratio (L) by partial scraping up of the halogen-containing ore by the lifter part 13, is adjusted to 3.5 or more, and firing temperature is adjusted to 900°C or more and 1,200°C or less to perform firing of the halogen-containing ore. |
