PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel cord in which a core removal and a preceding breakage of an element wire in the core are suppressed when it is used as a tensile strength cord in an elastic crawler.SOLUTION: The steel cord is composed of a core composed of a core strand and a sheath obtained by twisting six pieces of sheath strands arranged around the core. The core strand has a layered twist structure composed of a core part obtained by twisting three pieces of core element wires and an outer layer part obtained by twisting eight to nine pieces of core element wires arranged around the core part. The sheath strand has one of a bundle twist structure formed by twisting 12 to 19 pieces of sheath element wires and a multilayered twist structure formed by twisting 12 to 19 pieces of sheath element wires in a plurality of layers, and the diameter dc of the core element wire is greater than the diameter ds of the sheath element wire. An average gap Gc between the core element wires is 0.015 mm or greater and an average gap Gs between the sheath strands is 0.1 mm in the outer layer part.
