PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method and a transfer device capable of accurately determining whether a small area in an image in which a travelling direction of a vehicle and the like is imaged is a road surface.SOLUTION: The image processing device comprises: parallax calculation means for calculating parallax in a small area in an image on the basis of a plurality of images; border detection means for detecting a border area in which a border is imaged in the image; border parallax determination means for determining parallax between two border areas which are detected by the border detection means and whose positions in a vertical direction are the same as that of the small area; and road surface determination means for determining whether the small area shows a road surface on the basis of the parallax of the small area calculated by the parallax calculation means and the parallax between the two border areas determined by the border parallax determination means.
