PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deformation of an optical box occurring due to heat generated in a scanning optical device.SOLUTION: A scanning optical device irradiates an irradiation object with laser beams while scanning the irradiation object, and includes: a light source that generates and outputs laser beams; a polarizing device having a rotating polygon mirror that deflects and scans the laser beams output from the light source; and an optical box that accommodates the polarizing device. The optical box attached with the polarizing device has recesses provided on the surface on the outside for reducing deformation of the optical box occurring due to heat generated in the polarizing device.
