PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling protein expression that can almost completely suppress expression of a target protein under no-inducing conditions.SOLUTION: The inventors have found that when a cell containing a nucleic acid encoding a protein, which nucleic acid contains a codon inserted in frame but not corresponding to natural amino acids, is cultured under at least one condition selected from the following (I)-(III), expression of the protein is almost completely suppressed, where the conditions are: (I) cells are cultured in a culture medium not containing a non-natural amino acid; (II) culture is carried out in a state that tRNA that can bind to the non-natural amino acid is not expressed in the cell; and (III) culture is carried out in a state that aminoacyl tRNA synthetase that specifically catalyzes binding of the non-natural amino acid to the tRNA is not expressed in the cell. |
