PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overcoat agent detection device and a method of detecting overcoat agent method which can detect that there is a portion which is not coated with an overcoat agent, even if clogging of a nozzle occurs, and further provide an image formation device.SOLUTION: An overcoat agent detection device 10-1 detects existence or absence of application of an overcoat agent in which a material having a property for penetration of visible light and absorption of invisible light is mixed. The detection device 10-1 comprises invisible light irradiation means 12A which irradiates a surface of a sheet SH coated with the overcoat agent with invisible light, invisible light detection means 12B for detecting a light intensity of invisible light reflected from the sheet SH, and control means 17 for determining whether a detected light intensity is not less than a predetermined first threshold value or not and detecting that there is a portion which is not coated with the overcoat agent, when the detected light intensity is not less than the predetermined first threshold value. |
