The invention provides a non-invasive device for treatment of skin (30) using laser light, the device comprising: an optical system (10) having a laser light source (20) for generating a light beam (21), an opening (13) allowing the light beam (21) to exit the device, and an optical component (12) configured to radially polarize the light beam (21) exiting the device; the optical system (10) being configured such that, in use, the exiting light beam (21) impinges on the outer surface of the skin (30) to be treated, and the device being configured to focus, in use, the light beam (21) at a treatment location inside the skin,whereby Laser Induced Optical Breakdown is induced at the treatment location. The invention also provides a corresponding method to treat skin (30), in particular to reduce wrinkles. The use of the radially-polarizing optical element (radial polarizer) allows a reduction in intensity of the pulse energy in the focal area to produce LIOB. This means that the same level of skin treatment may be obtained with less risk of collateral damage to the tissue surrounding the treatment area |
