[Class 80 (iii)] In a locking mechanism according to the parent Specification the driving member comprises a lever and an intermediate releasing mechanism, the lever being pivoted on the cam integral with the driven shaft at a point off the axis and near the periphery of the cam, and also connected with the cam in the vicinity of the periphery, with clearance, by means of a stop. In an embodiment as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the driving shaft 1 has an integral cam 4 having three pairs of opposed sloping surfaces 5, 5a, 6, 6a, 7, 7a on which are six jamming balls or rollers 8, 8a, 9, 9a, 10, 10a co-operating with a fixed drum 2. A ring 19 pivoted on the cam 4 has projections 19, 20, 21 between the pairs of rollers, and is connected by a pin 17 to an operating handle 16 pivoted about an eccentrically mounted pivot 14. The remote end of the handle 16 has a hole 23 engaging a resilient pin 24, rigid with the cam 4, with clearance. Movement of the handle in the direction of the arrow F first moves the ring 19 to release the jammed rollers and at the same time reacts on the cam 4 to assist in the freeing, further movement of the lever causes the edge of the hole 23 to contact the pin 24 and drive is imparted to the shaft 1. Release of pressure on the handle 16 results in movement of the shaft 1 causing jamming of the appropriate rollers to lock the shaft in both directions of rotation. A second embodiment is shown in which the driven shaft takes the form of a tubular shaft and the handle is pivoted on a radial extension of the cam. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, a mechanism is shown in which motion is imparted to a rectilinearly moving member such as a cable. The hand lever rotates, through linkwork, an eccentric roller which has a crank pin operating a plate carrying, ball release fingers, the balls cooperating between a cam on the driven member and the inner surface of the stationary slide for the driven member. Movement of the roller moves the cam and release fingers in opposite directions and then moves the driven member as a whole. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
