PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus detection device that appropriately performs a focusing drive of a focusing lens.SOLUTION: A focus detection device 300 according to the present invention includes: a filter part 310a that filters a signal output from an imaging part photographing a subject image; a determination part 310d that is capable of a first determination for determining whether to perform a reboot on the basis of a size of the signal filtered by the filter part 310a and a second determination for determining whether to perform a reboot on the basis of a change in the signal filtered by the filter part 310a; and a control part 310e that, when it is determined that the reboot is performed by at least one of the first determination and the second determination, controls the drive of a focusing lens, and thereby starts detecting a focusing position. After the reboot is performed by the first determination, the control part 310e prohibits the reboot by th first determination, and after the reboot is performed by the second determination, the control part 310e does not prohibit the reboot by the second determination. |
