[Class 52(ii)] A foldable reclining chair, comprising a backrest 36, a seat 44, a front connecting link 60 and a top connecting link 62 forming a linkage which is pivoted at 52 to a support comprising hingedly interconnected pairs of front and rear legs 26, 22, a leg rest 54 pivoted at 56 to the seat 44, a controlling element 90 for controlling the movements of the linkage . during movement from one position to another when the chair is set up, is provided with a rear connecting link 84, pivoted at 88 to the back 36, and slidably engaged with a guiding rod 82 of the top connecting link 62 and also provided with a stop 74 for abutting co-operation with the link 84 when the chair is set-up. The linkage is duplicated being arranged at each side and the top connecting link 62 comprises the arm rest 66 while the guiding rod 82 is concealed within the arm rest. When the chair is set up the movements of the chair are obtained by pressure or movement of the occupant the controlling element 90 being permitted to slide along the guide rod 82, clamping of the element 90 by means of a hand wheel 110 locking the chair in the desired position. Limiting stops such as 112 and the coacting stops 46, 100 are provided. During movement of the linkage the leg rest 54 moves in relation to the seat 44, being part of the link 60 though in a modification it may be adjustably connected to the link. The seating and back surface comprises slats 58, 40, Fig. 3, and a cover 42, the latter being provided with an aperture 118 through which the hand may be passed to seize the handle 48 to manipulate the folding of the seat in conjunction with the other hand gripping the back 36 as shown in Fig. 10. In a modification the guiding rod 82 may be replaced by two parallel rods respectively engaged by the rear connecting link 84 and the controlling element 90. The legs 22, 26 are foldable about the pivot 32. |
