[Class 65 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXI and XXII] A tool-holder 4 (see Group XXII) hinges about a sleeve 6 surrounding a central pivot 7 on a base 29 and is adapted to be located and locked in a predetermined position. The sleeve 6 is slidably keyed to a collar 30 which carries a handle 5 and is adjustable in position by a nut 26 ; the threaded upper portion of the sleeve 6 engages a nut 20 on the holder 4 and it is formed at its base with a recess 9. The holder carries on its base a member 13 slotted to receive a pin 10. In operation, the holder is unlocked by turning the member 6 anti-clockwise, Fig: 2, so that the pin 10 engages the recess 9, and the holder is carried round by a pin 12 on the sleeve until a stop 14 is reached and the holder is held in position by a spring- plunger 15. To lock the holder, it is carried round by the pin 10 until the latter engages a recess 11 in the base, and the member 13 abuts a stop 19. Further rotation of the handle forces the pin into the recess 11 by means of an eccentric surface 8 on the sleeve, and the rotation of the sleeve 6 in the nut 20 clamps the holder down onto the base. The invention may also be applied to gun-breech mechanism, instruments and other obturating devices. |
