PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing ethanol from waste glycerol using a microorganism, where the waste glycerol is a byproduct of alkali catalyzed biodiesel fuel production using fat and primary alcohol as raw materials, and is used without neutralizing treatment.SOLUTION: The method includes a step in which waste glycerol, a byproduct of alkali catalyzed biodiesel fuel production using fat and primary alcohol as raw materials, is brought into contact with Paenibacillus macerans NS-1 (Accession Number FERM P-22124) without neutralizing treatment.
