<p>The invention relates to a device (102) for communication by coding of current with a plurality of modules (104), termed monitoring modules, disposed in an environment to be monitored, said device (102) comprising: - a so-called central unit (106), comprising an electrical generator (110), and at least one so-called receiver means (114), for measuring the current provided by said electrical generator (110, 210); - at least one electric wire (108), termed a communication wire, designed to link said central unit (106) to each of said monitoring modules (104); and - for each monitoring module (104), at least one so-called short-circuit means (118-124), that can be displaced between: - an open position in which the current delivered by said electrical generator (110, 210) does not pass over said communication wire (108) downstream of said monitoring module, and - a closed position in which the current delivered by said electrical generator is no longer consumed by said monitoring module and passes downstream of said monitoring module; so that each monitoring module (104) is linked to said communication wire (108) in turn.
