PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy, an aluminum alloy wire, an aluminum alloy stranded wire, a coated wire, and a wire harness having high toughness and high conductivity, and to provide a method of manufacturing the aluminum alloy wire.SOLUTION: An aluminum alloy wire contains Fe of 0.005 mass% to 2.2 mass% and the balance Al with inevitable impurities. Further it can contain total 0.005 mass% to 1.0 mass%, by mass%, of at least one kind of an additive element selected from Mg, Si, Cu, Zn, Ni, Mn, Ag, Cr and Zr. The Al alloy wire has conductivity of 58%IACS or more and elongation of 10% or more. The Al alloy wire is manufactured through processes of casting, rolling, wire drawing and softening treatment. The softening treatment is applied to the alloy wire to provide excellent toughness such as elongation or impact resistance, and consequently, fracture of wires occurring in the vicinity of the terminal parts when a wire harness is installed can be reduced.
