Provided is a technique which can diagnose efficiently and by a simple method whether communication between a computation device and a driver circuit not having a computation function is successfully taking place in a vehicle control device. This vehicle control device sends diagnostic data as a control command from a computation unit to the driver circuit, and the driver circuit sends reversed diagnostic data, i.e. the diagnostic data which has been bit-reversed, back to the computation unit. The computation unit uses the diagnostic data and the reversed diagnostic data to diagnose whether or not communication between the computation unit and the driver circuit is taking place successfully.
