An apparatus for detecting pupil according to an embodiment includes a distortion decision part which executes a convex hull processes on a first image, searches a major axis, divides the pupil into upper/lower and left/right regions based on the searched major axis, obtains the sum of a Euclidian distance from the center of a major axis to a pupil boundary with regard to two regions, and decides the distortion of the pupil due to eyelids by using the distance value; a first distortion correction part which has point symmetry based on the center of the searched major axis when the distortion of the pupil due to eyelids exists; and a second distortion correction part which generates a differential image by comparing the correction image (or the first image) and a second image, and executes an ellipsoidal approximation on the differential image. |
