PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and control method therefor, capable of preventing an image of a person who takes communication from being distorted.SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging element that picks up an image formed in fan-shaped regions 52, 56 of at least a peripheral part among images generated by an imaging lens and outputs imaging data; distortion correction section that corrects an optical distortion of the fan-shaped region of imaging data output from the imaging element and generates a rectangular image 53; and a display panel that displays an image corrected into a rectangular image by the distortion correction section.
