The internal combustion engine has a crankcase (10), which flowed through one of a coolant. A first coolant chamber and a second cooling chamber are arranged in a vertical direction (28) of the crankcase. The internal combustion engine has a cylinder head connected with the crankcase. The cylinder head is fluidically connected to the second coolant chamber through a vent channel (30) for venting the second coolant chamber.
