A compound of the formula (I) wherein X is selected from methyl and hydroxyl; and either the bond between C-1 and C-2 together with the dotted line or the bond between C-1 and C-6 together with the dotted line represents a double bond. Preferred compounds of formula (I) include 4-(5,5-dimethylcyclohex-1-en-1-yl)pent-4-enal, 4-(3,3-dimethylcyclohex-1-en-1-yl)pent-4-enal, 4-(5-hydroxy-5-methylcyclohex-1-en-1-yl)pent-4-enal, and 4-(3-hydroxy-3-methylcyclohex-1-en-1-yl)pent-4-enal. These compounds have floral, lily-of-the-valley like olfactive properties and find use as fragrances. In another aspect, a method for improving, enhancing or modifying a consumer product base by means of the addition thereto a compound of formula (I). In another aspect, a fragrance composition comprising a compound of formula (I) or mixtures thereof, and at least one known odorant. |
