A hybrid electric vehicle includes an internal combustion engine and a high-voltage DC bus. Preferably, the internal combustion engine mechanically interworks with a non-self-excited generator/motor that is a switched magnetic resistance machine. A power inverter electrically and bidirectionally connects the high-voltage DC bus to the non-self-excited switched magnetic resistance generator/motor. Front and back shaft dual DC-AC inverters connect two traction AC non-self-excited switched magnetic resistance motors/gear reducers, electrically and bidirectionally, to the high-voltage DC bus for regenerative power supply and vehicle movement. An ultracapacitor is connected to the high-voltage DC bus. The high-voltage DC bus and a bidirectional DC-DC converter positioned between low-voltage batteries transmit energy to the high-voltage DC bus and the ultracapacitor so that the non-self-excited switched magnetic resistance generator/motor operating in a motor mode can ignite the engine. |
