In a diesel engine, a target oxygen concentration is set in association with the end of a physical ignition delay period of fuel injected in a main injection, and control parameters are corrected such that an actual oxygen concentration at the end of the physical ignition delay period matches the target oxygen concentration. Target values are set for the control parameters in priority order of a boost pressure of intake air, an exhaust gas recirculation rate, and a fuel injection time, and the control parameters are sequentially corrected in the priority order until the actual oxygen concentration matches the target oxygen concentration. |
