641,671. Protective cut-out arrangements. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Oct. 3, 1947, No. 26697. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1946. [Class 38(v)] In a system in which D.C. generators supply a common load, each generator has a circuit breaker which opens the field circuit in the event of failure of the regulator controlling the field circuit. The Fig. shows generators 1, 2 supplying a common load and having shunt field windings 3, 4 each controlled by a voltage regulator having a carbon pile 23 actuated by a winding 19 in shunt with the generator armature. A circuit breaker 27, connected in series with each field winding is normally held closed by a latch 31 against the compression of a spring 30. The latch may be disengaged by an electromagnet having a winding 34 connected in parallel with the field winding. In the event of a carbon pile 23 becoming short circuited, or in the event of the open circuiting of a winding 19 causing a pile to be fully compressed, an increased voltage would be applied across the associated field winding and across winding 34, which unlatches the circuit breaker 27 to open the field circuit and so prevent the generator from attaining an excess voltage due to over-excitation. Specification 625,825, [Group XXXV], is referred to.
|
