The present invention relates to a novel compound having an antioxidant activity and isolated from a mycelial culture of Coprinus echinosporus and to an antioxidant composition comprising the same as an active ingredient. The compound isolated and purified from the mycelia culture of Coprinus echinosporus according to the present invention is excellent in ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging activity, reducing power, and single strand breakage (SSB) suppressive activity, thereby having excellent antioxidant efficacy, and thus can be very useful as an antioxidant, and a medicine, a cosmetic material, functional food, or food additive for preventing and treating diseases caused by excessive accumulation of active oxygen and inhibiting skin damage and skin aging.
