A fitting assembly 10, for receiving and restraining a stud 12, comprises a sleeve 16 defining a bore extending along a longitudinal axis 100 and restraining means, e.g. fingers 16a, 16b, for selectively restraining stud 12 in the bore. Restraining means 18 are moveable between a first, typically radially inward position in which stud 12 cannot move axially and a second, typically radially outward, position allowing axial movement of stud 12. Sleeve 16 is clampable, typically by a threaded nut 24, preventing movement of restraining means 16a, 16b to the second position. Restraining means 16a, 16b may comprise teeth (19, Figure 3a) so that, in the first position, a ratchet or cam action between the teeth and a thread or other projection of stud 12 may restrain movement. The assembly is particularly suitable for securing a spoiler (34, Figure 5) on a vehicle tailgate (36, Figure 5). |
