[Class 17 (ii)] Superposed mid-sole layers 12, 13, Fig. 3, larger all round than the outer sole are secured together, as by a line of stitching 18 inwards of the sole edge. The margin 13A of the upper layer is scalloped at 16 and has a line of holes 17 by which when upturned it may be attached by thonging 19, Fig. 1, to the shoe upper. The margin 12A of the lower layer is turned down and secured against the side edges of an outer sole secured below the lower layer 12. The layer 12 may be of crepe rubber and the layer 13 of leather, and the inner and outer portions 11A, 11 may be of crepe rubber. When a wedge heel is provided, the marginal extensions of the layers 12, 13 are increased correspondingly to cover the sides of the wedge.
