The present invention relates to a composition comprising polydioxanone as an active ingredient for promoting hair growth or preventing hair loss. The polydioxanone, of the present invention, is administered to the skin or scalp by using an imbedding therapy, grows the growth of the hair to phase VI, induces new DNA synthesis of cells in epidermidis, bulge, secondary follicle cells, and interior and exterior sarcolemma, increases the expression of PCNA in the bulge region, increases the expression of FGF, VEGF, and c-kit which are known as hair growth-related factors, and increases the gene expression of EGF, FGF-2, and VEGF receptor 2. Thus, the composition of the present invention has similar or better effect of promoting hair growth compared with a conventional hair loss treating agent such as minoxidil. |
