Electrochemical-based analytical test strip with folded contact pad protrusions

An electrochemical test strip 100 for the determination of an analyte in a bodily fluid sample includes an electrically insulating flexible substrate, a first conductive flexible layer (FCFL) disposed on the substrate layer, a patterned spacer layer 140 disposed on the FCFL, an insulating flexible top layer with an underside surface disposed above the pat­terned spacer layer, and a second conductive flexible layer (SCFL) dis­posed on that underside surface. The FCFL includes first electrode portion and first electrical contact pad, the SCFL includes second electrode portion and second electrical contact pad. At least one of (i) the insulating flexible substrate layer with FCFL, and (ii) the insulating flexible top layer with SCFL, is folded over upon itself to form a protrusion 180 including one of the contact pads. The contact pads enable connection with a meter (Fig 8) and the electrode portions cover a sample receiving chamber 172.
