The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for providing wireless communications in a portable terminal. If roaming between access points are completed, basic service set IDs (BSSIDs) of the access points are checked. The allocation of an Internet protocol (IP) address is checked based on a wireless communications network resource and the checked BSSIDs. Wireless communications is performed by using the IP address which is used according to the check result. The wireless communications network list is a list to divide the access points according to the same dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) servers using the BSSIDs of the access points which are connected to the portable terminal.
