The present invention relates to a portable terminal and, more specifically, to a portable terminal for controlling an icon displayed on a touch screen and a method thereof. The method for controlling the icon of the portable terminal of the present invention comprises a step for displaying one or more icons on a widget screen corresponding to a function for changing the size of an icon on the touch screen which displays the icons; a step for activating the attribute of the selected icon corresponding to the selected icon which applies the function; and a step for controlling the size of the selected icon corresponding to a direction which drags one side of the selected icon on the widget screen.
