The present invention relates to an antimicrobial agent and an antioxidant containing essential oil from roots of Anthriscus sylvestris Hoffman or a main ingredient thereof as an active ingredient. The essential oil from roots of Anthriscus sylvestris Hoffman and the main ingredient thereof such asα-Terpinolen and myristicin have an excellent inhibitory activity against food poisoning bacteria and antibiotic resistant bacteria, thereby being useful as a natural antimicrobial agent. The essential oil and the main ingredient thereof are also very effective in inhibiting DPPH free radicals and reducing to nitrite, thereby being useful as a natural antioxidant. |
