Disclosed is a method of making a carpet backing layer. The method comprising the steps of passing used carpet through a disintegrator to yield target fibres and latex waste in an airborne mix, separating these in airborne stages and feeding the target fibres to a non-woven layer building machine. The method is advantageous in producing a non-woven (i.e. felted) carpet backing that does not require crushing/melting of recycled fibres into new fibres for subsequent creation of new woven layers. |
