Disclosed is a method of establishing a link in a multiple wavelength passive optical network system by a subscriber device and a service provider device. In the method of establishing a link according to an embodiment, the subscriber device acquires information of a wavelength plan allocated to a multiple wavelength passive optical network, transmits a first wavelength initialization request signal with a first upstream wavelength in a physical layer to the service provider device, waits for a response from the service provider device for a preset time interval after transmitting the first wavelength initialization request signal, receives a wavelength initialization response signal with a first downstream wavelength from a physical layer of the service provider device within the time interval or transmits a second wavelength initialization request signal with a second upstream wavelength after the waiting step when the wavelength initialization request signal is not received.
