The device has a chamber (1) delimited by an envelope (2) made of a refractory metal or refractory metal alloy with resistance to the formation of hydrides, with high melting point, and with good mechanical characteristics such as tungsten, where a light gas i.e. hydrogen or mixture of light gases is introduced into the chamber. An ionizing device ionizes and brings the gas to a high pressure and a high temperature, so that outer-shell electrons of the gas leave the electron orbit and produce high-energy radiation, with low and non-zero probability, in the middle of protons.
