The invention primarily concerns a method for controlling a particle filter that filters particles contained in the exhaust gases of a motor vehicle, on the basis of the level of damage of same. During a regeneration of the particle filter, the following steps are implemented: - classifying a parameter of the level of damage of the filter, such as a soot load volume of the filter, in a damage class (KCm), - determining, by means of a damage matrix, a single damage value based on the damage class (KCm) and a number of repetitions of the regenerations associated with said damage class, - combining said single damage value with a current damage value to obtain a new current damage value, and - adapting a limit soot mass value for which the regeneration of the filter will be controlled on the basis of the new current damage value. |
