The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for controlling a position of a brake pad. The apparatus includes a first detection unit for detecting a current position value of a brake pad mounted to a vehicle in an active brake pad retraction (ABR) mode, and detecting a current braking pressure value of a braking pressure generating device; a control unit receiving the current position value of the brake pad and the current braking pressure value detected by the first detection unit, and having a reference position range of the brake pad and a reference braking pressure range which are set; a first determination unit for determining whether the current position value of the brake pad and the current braking pressure value detected by the first detection unit are deviated from the reference position range of the brake pad and the reference braking pressure range; and a brake pad initial position operating unit for returning the brake pad to a brake pad position which is set to the reference braking pressure range under the control of the control unit, if the first determination unit determines that the current position value of the brake pad and the current braking pressure value are deviated from the reference position range of the brake pad and the reference braking pressure range. |
