PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation method for a fuel cell, which is able to reduce stress applied to glass during reduction of the fuel cell.SOLUTION: In the initial operation of a stack 30, when a reductant agent is supplied into the stack 30 and reduction is caused, the stack temperature is set to not lower than a temperature equal to the transition point (Tg) of glass joining a cell and housing provided in a fuel cell, and to a temperature range within which the viscosity coefficient &eegr; of the glass 12 is not higher than a critical viscosity coefficient &eegr;s obtained by &eegr;s=τs/γ, in which τs is permissible shear stress of the glass, and γ is a cell deformation shear speed. By employing such an operation method, breaking of the glass 12 can be prevented during reduction. |
