a musical performance data retrieval portion for retrieving musical performance data indicative of musical performance played by a user; a musical piece information retrieval portion for retrieving musical piece information indicative of a musical piece played by the user; a chord tendency information retrieval portion for retrieving chord tendency information indicative of degrees of likelihood or unlikelihood of chords appearing in the musical piece; and a chord detection portion for detecting a chord on the basis of the musical performance data retrieved by the musical performance data retrieval portion and the chord tendency information retrieved by the chord tendency information retrieval portion.
