The unit has a plate cylinder-drive wheel whose bearing arranged on a plate cylinder-drive shaft is associated with an actuated clutch such that the plate cylinder drive wheel is moved from a drive wheel during printing operation at opened actuated clutch mode. A plate cylinder (7) i.e. pressure cylinder, is synchronously tracked to a main drive element through the drive unit. The plate-cylinder drive wheel on the plate-cylinder drive shaft is fixed in a register accessible location by the actuated clutch during printing operation at closed actuated clutch mode. The actuated clutch is designed as an electromagnetically actuated friction clutch. An independent claim is also included for a method for driving a bend-processing printing machine using a drive unit.
