The vehicle (2) has an adjusting device (3) arranged in a driver-side foot space (1), and actuated by a driver with a foot. The adjusting device adjusts requirements for accelerating and/or braking the vehicle. A control device detects the requirements, and outputs control signals for converting the requirements based on the detected requirements. The adjusting device is designed as a touch pad (4) with a touch-sensitive operating surface (10) so that the requirements are adjusted by contacting the operating surface with the foot. The pad is pivotably mounted in the space around a pivot axis. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a longitudinal movement of a motor vehicle by an adjusting device.
